There's nothing like picking a fresh tomato off the vine and just biting into it. All that juice, some of it dribbling down my chin, the smell of summer in that bite....the best memories.
I enjoy them like that still, and I also like them sun-dried. Stewed tomatoes I used to enjoy eating with my dad, a big bowl of them with 1" thick slices of french bread with butter, salt and pepper. A meal in itself...and I still eat them like that.
A tomato sandwich with bbq'd haloumi cheese, fresh basil, salt, pepper, a little olive oil and a fresh baked panini bun.
Heirloom tomatoes cut into wedges, drizzled with evoo, fresh basil, salt, pepper and a little fresh lemon juice and zest. Beautiful colours and great with almost every meal.
One thing that I'm really adamant about. I refuse to buy hot house grown tomatoes. They have no real flavour or smell to them. And I find that the skins are tougher than on the vine grown ones. But that's me!
