When you're trying to lose weight, having the support of your friends and family can be a huge help. On the flip side, it can be difficult when people seem to sabotage your healthy-eating efforts (consciously or inadvertently). Who helps--and who hurts--your weight-loss success?
It's funny because my boyfriend is the person i'm with the most and sometimes he helps and sometimes he hurts my success! At first it really troubled me when he said "let's go out to breakfast" or "let's have cocktails". But now i see it as a challenge. I look in the calorie counter book before we go, and see what I could order that will not wreck my day. And he was hoping my diet would help HIM lose a few too, and what do you know? He is being really good now and while he refuses to keep a food diary, he'll eat something and say "how many calories are in this?" And he's lost a few pounds eating the EW recipes I'm preparing!
I have a good support system for the most part but my biggest saboteurs are my fiance and next door neighbors. we love to hang out and have cocktails, although I can refuse the invitation to consume, it is very difficult when everyone else is thus, I have come up with a new plan on meeting this challenge. instead of having alcohol I am going to make myself a virgin mary so I trick myself into thinking I am having alcohol without the caloric detrement. I also think knowing that I am not alone in this challenge, that we are all facing this together helps because if we are having trouble, we can post on the forum and have support right there!
