Do you hand out healthier Halloween treats or still just grab those big handy bags of candy from your grocery store?

I live on one of the most popular trick-or-treating streets in our state (for real, busloads of kids come to trick-or-treat there!) I still just hand out regular candy--I don't know how many parents would let their kids eat something homemade or that could be altered.

And I must admit I still love to snack on snickers and peanut butter cups while i'm handing out candy... Wink

I am so disappointed. I just talked to my neighbor at my new house and found out that we don't get trick-or-treaters. Frowner I thought now that I'm in a house instead of an apartment, I'd get to hand out some treats and dress up. Oh well. I had been planning on handing out the Pop Rocks version of Fun Dip--there's a lollipop that you dip into the Pop Rocks over and over again. Healthy? No. But it sure is fun!

I'm totally handing out fun candy - mostly so I can eat the leftovers Wink But, also for the kids! Healthier/homemade treats would be great but I don't see parents allowing their kids to eat those unless they knew the person really well.
As a kid, I always hated the house that gave out pennies...what was that about?

I was on my way to the checkout counter when I turned over one of the bags of candy I was buying for Halloween. They were mini Twix bars and there was 4 gm sat. fat in a serving. I put them back and kept looking. I found individual serving bags of Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids packed in the same larger bag. No fat!!! AND it listed the number of servings in the bag in large print on the front of the bag. It can sometimes be a guess as to how many are in each bag. I felt really good about my find today plus it still is a candy treat that won't make kids turn their nose up.

Avi- you brought something to mind that I hadn't thought about for many years. Back in the 50's when you got full size candy bars that were larger than they make today, I went with a friend to a house where they gave out nickels. That nickel bought a big bar back then. I was under 10 yrs. of age. I tripped and fell and I heard a coin hit the pavement. I started to cry and the nice lady gave me another nickel in my bag as she helped me up. When I dumped my loot at home, lo and behold I had two nickels. To this day I can't figure it out. Did she slip 10 cents into my pillowcase or did someone else's nickel fall ou of their container and that is what I heard? Thanks for the memory!

I used to love it when I got the regular or giant-sized candy bars. Rarely did I get money though.

If I give out candy, it's always the mini-candy bars like Snickers or Kit Kats. (Ha, something I like so I can snack on it too. What other occasion justifies me going out and buying big bags of candy? Wink)
