Actually, I had never eaten a snack bar, but a couple of days ago I was running errands and while in Sam's Club realized that I was hungry. I hadn't yet eaten lunch, and it was almost 4pm, so I just needed something to take the edge off until dinner. Now, Sam's Club is not the place to get a quick snack. But I saw a box of Kashi "Tasty Little Chewies". Being in Sam's Club, I had to buy a box of three flavors, 18 in all (around $7.50, I think). But it was a good decision. MY review:
The bars are not big, approximately 3"x 1-1/4", but they are thick and very hearty-tasting. The flavors were Honey Almond Flax, Trail Mix (with almonds and cranberries), and Peanut Peanut Butter. Each are about 130 calories and contain 5g total fat (0.5g saturated), 4g fiber, and 5g protein. I was surprised at how such a little thing could satisfy my hunger pangs (after all, I had 17 more ready to go, if necessary)
The Honey Almond Flax was a little sweeter than I would have liked, but it wasn't overly sweet.
Anyone else want to rate snack bars with me?

I really like these too! My favorite is the Trail mix bars. The kids like the Peanut Butter the best. I dont think I have bought another kind of bar (granola type) since we found these
OOOPS...I meant to rate another bar too (I dont see an edit button?)
Lara Bars- they are all raw foods and usually have only 2 or 3 ingredients! I dont have one on hand so I cant post the nutritional facts. They are EXCELLENT!
They have cashews or almonds or walnuts as a nut and dates as a sweetener...they are very dense and all the ingredients are ground together. They are VERY satisfying!

Thanks for the recommendation. I just bought them on your say-so.

I will try to find the Lara Bars too. Thanks for the recommendation.
I love Detour Bars and South Beach Diet Bars. There are 2 types of SBD bars: cereal bars and meal replacement bars. I enjoy both. The meal replacement bars have a lot of sugar alcohols, though, so they can do a number on your digestive tract if you aren't accustomed to eating them.

tried the lara bars today and they are really good. I got the chocolate coconut which was ok (not very chocolatey or coconutty but still good) and the banana cookie bar which I thought was very good. especially considering there are only 3 ingredients.
they don't taste as "treat-like" as my SBD bars, but they sure are healthy!
thanks for the heads up on them!

Your welcome! I like the Banana flavor too...I think it says that there is a WHOLE banana in each bar!!! I also like the cashew cookie and the cherry pie (the cherry one has a little pucker to it)
I agree that Kashi bars are pretty good. But I must say I am a big fan of Luna Bars. Every flavor is delicious-- my personal favorite are Chai Tea and Chocolate Pecan. They come in all great flavors for any type of craving! The company just reduced the amount of sugar and increased the amount of fiber!! They are expecially made for women and with soy protein. http://lunabar.com/index_main.cfm
I recently tried the Clif Nectar bars for the first time and I am in love with them. They are the same concept at the Lara bars (I think) - few, all natural ingredients. The chocolate walnut is decadent but pretty healthful. Dates are the base, I believe. I also like the cinnamon pecan. I don't love the lemon cashew one as much, but I am not a huge lemon fan.
I second the Lara Bars- I like the cherry pie and chocolate mole the best. I also rec Think Organic- very similar to Lara Bars. Yummy and no guilt feelings. I ate one of Lara Bars cherry pie for dessert and it worked! Just sweet enough and and cherry enough- uuummmm.

Anyone have a good recipe for a good granola bar/snack bar? There is one that I make that is an all time family favorite, and even the married kids are making them. Not sure how low fat they are, but they are good and satisfying. I would love to have another recipe to add to my collection if you have any.
NO BAKE GRANOLA BARS
1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1 cups peanut butter 1tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 cups oats 1 1/2 cups Rice Krispees
Make syrup by bringing to a boil in a small saucepan the brown sugar, light corn syrup, and peanut butter. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Stir in oats and rice krispees and turn into a 9" pan sprayed with Pam. Cut into squares or bars when cooled.
Optional: Add sunflower seeds, coconut, or raisins if desired.
For on-the-go ease, cut them in bar shapes (or squares), and put in individual zip lock snack bags.
FiberOne snack bars in the Peanut Butter and Oats flavor are awesome and they have something like 35% of the RDA of fiber in them. There's a chocolate and oat flavor too but in my humble opinion it's not nearly as good as the peanut butter one.
