I have been celebrating heart health month all year long for a couple of years now.
I have made a lot of changes to my diet that for me have been huge steps in the right direction after years of eating poorly and being overweight. I have finally eliminated most all snack and junk foods and limit sweets to very rare occaisions. Although I know I can always use more veggies in my diet, I do very well with fresh fruit, whole grains, low fat dairy and lean meat. I have even cut way back on how much meat and now mostly I eat only poultry or fish, lots of times I now have some type of beans (legumes) instead. I have eliminated all foods from my diet that contain HFCS, I eat very little if any white flour products and have been pretty successful in eliminating artificial sweeteners or white sugar too by trying to use honey or molasses in any baking I do.
I exercise almost every day for at least 1/2 hour, but I don't stress about the day off here and there. Every day I have a mini program that always gets done, it takes me about 10 minutes.
I'm trying meditation.
These changes have made a huge difference in my health, appearance, and stress level. I look and feel better than I have in ages and my cardiologist is pleased too. I still do have to take medication for HBP and an arrythmia but I am hoping further weight loss will help me to reduce their dosages.
