Planning is key to eating well-balanced meals, and snacks are no different. You need to have a game plan to keep yourself on track when hunger strikes. Packing simple, nutritious and portable snacks can help you resist the vending machine or fast-food joint when you’re at work or on the go. What are your favorite snacks for on-the-run munching?

We make sure we always carry a large stash of 100 calorie snacks, produce, yogurt, and cheese sticks.

I make up my own 'trail mix'. I use pine nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, cashews, pistachios, raisins, Chinese rice snacks, and pretzels. Hubby tends to be fussy about certain nuts, so I've had to narrow my mix down somewhat.
I also make sure that I have some of my biscottis handy. They're made with unbleached flour and organic ingredients when I can get them.

At work I keep a mix of healthy snacks in my desk along with some Weight Watchers snacks. Two of my favorites (both are also organic): Ococos (love the chocolate flavor) and Sensible Foods Crunch Dried Sweet Corn. It tastes like corn on the cob, and counts as a serving of vegetables. Yum!

I always try to pair protien with carbs to keep me feeling full and going for a long time. It doesn't always work that way, as today when I packed my gorp I forgot to throw in some nuts and ended up with all carbs...definately not the greatest energy lasting snack or smartest choice, but I plan on packing smarter tomorrow. Smiler

Some of my favorite morning/afternoon snacks!

--1/2 cup cottage cheese with either 15 kashi crackers or a cup of mixed veggies.
--homemade trail mix (cashews, cheerios, raisins, and a tablespoon of chocolate chips is my favorite sweet mix for a sugar craving)
--kashi granola bars
--salsa mixed with black beans and baked tortilla chips...sometimes sprinkled with a bit of low-fat cheese and nuked for a few seconds if I have a microwave close by.
--string cheese and an apple
--"ants on a log", peanut butter, celery, and raisins stacked on.
--yogurt with a whole banana and two tablespoons of slivered almonds or walnuts...the banana keeps its color even if you chop it up in the yogurt the night before..
--2 tablespoons of hummus and carrots or kashi crackers
--again, if theres a microwave handy, I like to chop up an apple, sprinkle with cinnamon, walnuts, and raisins, and nuke for about a minute and stir occasionally...nice and warm and comforting. Smiler
--1/2 peanut butter sandwich.
--tall starbucks non-fat latte sprinkled with cinnamon
--homemade bran muffins, with personal favorite toppings (walnuts, cranberries, raisins...etc)
--1/2 a whole wheat pita pocket with 1 cup of mixed veggies and hummus
