It's coming soon. Time for turkeys, stuffing and mashed potatoes... Do you try to do things healthier at the holidays or go with old standbys? If you're a magazine subscriber, did any of the recipes in our Thanksgiving feature this time intrigue you? I'm planning on making the turkey and mashed roots, as well as the roasted brussels sprouts from that issue's Veg Wise.

I thought the Crunchy Pear & Celery Salad would make an excellent appetizer. I am also going to try the whole wheat pumpkin pie crust in place of the traditional one. Since I will try to cut the fat and sugar as much as possible, I will try the turkey with herbs and I don't think the family will notice. I am looking for a healthier way to make the candied sweet potaotes that they like.

Something I make with the garnet (red) sweet potatoes, not just for Thanksgiving, is to peel them, slice them into thick slices, mix them with a little olive oil & sprinkle them with Chinese 5 Spice, salt & pepper & then roast them at 350 - 375 degrees until they are tender. My family really likes them this way. And best of all we skip all the butter & sugar.
