We've all tried home remedies for one reason or another. Mom might've given you chicken soup when you were sick or a glass of ginger ale when you complained of a stomach ache. She may have been on to something. Ginger, the root of the ginger plant, may have several therapeutic properties, such as soothing the stomach and stimulating appetite.
I always take good quality gingersnaps and gingerale when I go sailing and it really helps when I feel a little queasy. I also take ginger supplements for motions sickness. I discovered on a recent day sail that it's also an excellent anti-inflammatory! It stopped the pain I was having as a result of a neck injury.

I still use my mother's solution for upset stomach - flat Coke! She would pour about 6 oz. into a glass and let it sit for about a half hour or more, then make me drink it. It works!

Due to complications from surgery I'll first try a fresh homemade ginger tea to settle my stomach before I resort to the prescribed medicines.
I regularly drink ginger ale since I like it and it has no caffeine. One thing I've found though is if my stomach is upset the carbonation in ginger ale can pose an additional problem. Adding grated ginger to my chamomile tea helps me more for upset tummies than the ale does.
Laying down (if possible) for 15 minutes or so will also help since for me it alleviates any of the pressure some of the other organs may be placing on my stomach.
Malnourished due to 2 stomach surgeries. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Eating more healthy will hopefully increase my energy and allow me to once again be able to participate in life.
