Tiburon, CA has banned trans fats, KFC announced it'll cease using it to fry their signature chicken, and NYC is discussing seriously limiting its use. What do you think about this topic? Some interesting links:
This is off-topic, but a chef I worked with in culinary school showed us 2 Grey Poupon labels--1 from Canada, 1 from the US-- guess which one had high fructose corn syrup in it?

As someone who has been overweight her entire life due to trans fats that she was unaware of, I believe this is a wonderful move! My mother eats at those places, and she is overweight. I simply hate it when I see my own mother unhappy because of her weight. This just was not an issue when she was growing up. She barely understands it now. By taking those fats out of the system, she won't have to worry about it, but she will be benefitting. Great idea!

I totally agree with banning trans fat in the chaihn type resturant, me being overweight myself and seeing my son who has become overweight due to the trans fat and too many carbs that i have fed him over the past 10 years.menowmeows@yahoo.com

The answer to why does the US export non-transfat products to countries like Denmark yet still mfg the same product with transfat for US sales is $$$$. It costs less to mfg products with transfats vs. the non-trans fat ingredient. Plus, as Americans, our taste buds have been 'brainwashed' into preferring the taste of the transfat laden product. For instance, take an oreo type cookie. Taste the Newmans Own variety and then taste it's nationally recognized counterpart. You will notice a SIGNIFICANT diffrence in both taste and texture. Then there's the whole FDA thing which is a whole different can of Crisco.

They've changed oreos. I actually prefer the taste of mint newman's own cookies to oreos now.
My friend and I got into an interesting discussion about this topic last week. He doesn't think it's bad necessarily that trans fat was banned there, but wondered where we drew the line on where government can control our lives. It made me think some more about this topic and I guess I'm not totally sure how I feel about that.

My 32 yr. old nephew died of a heart attack, on the way to the hospital:his physician had diagnosed the condition to be a respiratory condition-gave him antibiotics and an inhaler to help his breathing. The Dr. could not relate chest pain, breathing problem and pain in arm to be anything else(!!!????!!!)The autopsy showed 90% blockage in his aorta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was thin! GET RID OF THE TRANS-FAT NOW!!!!
I think we should ban food stuffs that are bad for us and begin with the letter “B”. For starters: butter, bacon, bologna, beef, bratwurst, bagels, blintzes, brownies, beer, Beaujolais, and booze. And while we’re at it, we should include buffets, BS and bureaucracy. None of these things is good for us if consumed in large quantities. Neither is trans fat. It doesn’t make sense to me to make any of them illegal.
