Something I read in EW prompted me to check in our library system to see if I could get any of Marion Nestle's books from our system. I just finished "What to Eat" and immediately passed it on to my brother. Now I am reading "Food Politics". It is a harder read for me but I will finish it.
"What to Eat" takes you through every aisle in the grocery store and explains why it is in that location and the history and goals of each manufacturer for their products. Even chapters that I thought I would skip - bottled water and baby food- were so interesting that I read every word.
In "Food Politics" she has a list of 9 key points that Ancel and Margaret Keys made in 1959 as dietary guidelines for prevention of coronary heart disease. Things changed after WW II with our food supply and in 1959 they already saw it needing correction.
I thought my eyes were open regarding food and health but these books helped me to see things in a new brighter light.
