A few weeks (or maybe a month) ago there was a "study" that came out and was all over the place about fat-free diets "not working". I didn't pay attention then, but should have because I've been asked about this a few times. Does anyone have a link to this study? I keep finding older information. Thanks!

ps. I tried to start a new subject forum, but could only post on this sugar substitutions. Any idea how I could have accomplished this?

The study can be found on www.nhlbi.gov. Look at news/ events and it is the third press release down. It was run on 48,835 women ages 50-79 from 1993-2001. It was started when low fat was supposed to be the best for heart health and cancer. JAMA, Feb.8,2006 tested this hypothesis and came to a very different conclusion. The difference is in the type of fat we eat- good healthy mono and polys vs sat and trans-fats.
The news media did a terrible job about getting out the real truth of the findings and the way the study was run.

Thanks, staying healthy (I think I just wrote that same sentence in another thread...). This will be very interesting reading.

In the last couple of days, I received my April copy of the Nutrition Action Healthletter. Its lead story is the study about low fat diets and the real facts that were not in the media headlines. In a couple of days when they change from the March to the April website, go to www.cspinet.org and click on "Nutrition Action Healthletter". It will be the cover story and also the report covers Calcium and Vit.D.
