How do you control your portions? This is probably my biggest challenge. We've been leaving food in the kitchen and portioning our plates up and going into the dining room. I get in major trouble when there's big bowls of food on the table--it's hard for me not to pick at the leftover roasted potatoes...

We do the same thing, primarily to encourage our kids to eat the healthy stuff. The good veggies make it to the table where they're easy to access. The starches and proteins stay on the kitchen counter to be doled out more stringently. The secondary benefit is that Mommy & Daddy are inherently too lazy to over serve themselves the potatoes because they have to get off their bottoms to get them.

We also moderate the quantity of starches we make. For example, we'll only cook the amount of pasta we think the kids will eat, plus a little bit. Parents get an initial serving of a little bit, and assuming the kids eat something, there isn't enuf left over for us to stuff ourselves with.

I measure most foods and know the sizes. That's how I eat most days.
