I wanted tso badly to be able to say ...with a sweet healthy snack such as fruit...and I do think of that but always end up getting a cup of tea ...and not herbal...

"For, behold, the winter is past. The rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth. The time of the singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land." Song of Solomon 2:11-12

I must say I rarely get the 3 o'clock slump and I attribute that to my lunch. Most days I make a salad with at least 2 kinds of beans, lots of raw veggies and herbs plus whatever is left from dinner (chicken, pasta, roasted vegs, that little left-over piece of something that no one will touch, etc.). My salad is never the same 2 days in a row, it is filling, inexpensive (great fridge cleaning meal!)and best of all, yummy. It keeps me going through the afternoon; I never feel heavy or sleepy like I do if I have had the misfortune of lunching on take-out.

My 3 o-clock snack is a granola bar from "Kashi". They don't have the high fructose or corrn syrups in them that others do.

i learned from my doctor recently that afternoon slumps are caused by a drop in glucose. he suggested eating a smaller lunch and saving a piece of it such as fruit for an afternoon snack.

i liked great dane's salad and bean lunch suggestion. i'd like to eat more beans.

in the afternoon i have a piece of fruit and 1 ounce of light cheese or some nuts such as almonds, walnuts or soybeans. sometimes i have a light yogurt.

Slump? What slump? All you need to do is educate yourselves on the importance of eating little and often - every 1.5 - 2 hours. Using either nuts (not all types are beneficial), fruits, water is the most important, as many do not drink what they ought to. Use some of the foods you have kept in your fridge that are rich protein surces and add fresh uncooked veggies to them, absolutely brillaint! Remember, drink 125ml of water before you eat, so the food that follows can be used more efficiently. Speed up your drinking of water and do not drink anything but water - but never cold water, only fresh room temperature water, ok? Great!

Yes, I find I have a bigger slump on days I have forgotten to drink as much water as I should, it really does make a difference!

I work at a computer, and on days when I'm not very busy, I can hardly make it to lunch, and I eat healthy! Once I have my lunch and some veggies or fruit at my desk, I go for a walk for an hour to get away from my desk and "food thoughts." It works! So does drinking plenty of water. I bring in a jug of filtered water from home, as our local water is yucky. I must say I could use a pack horse to carry in the food and water every morning!

I LOVE the Kashi Granola Bars they aren't very low fat (32%) but with 5 g of fiber I don't care.

With a protein- and fiber-rich lunch and breakfast, I get neither the 3 o'clock OR the 10 o'clock slump or munchies.

Slow and steady energy release avoids blood sugar drops. Practical and simple.
